A&P was written in 1961, a time period where woman were breaking the rules and traditions of their parents before them and moving into a new era. Before this new revolution, women were reared to become housewives and mothers. The cold war forced women to help in the workplace due that all the men were on the battlefield. This probably started the feeling of independence and free thinking. This opened a new door for brazenness and sexual power. Women started wearing mini-skirts, go-go boots, and colorful clothing. They chose to take birth control pills and plan for their own futures. They quickly achieved the power of sexuality and refused to conform to social norms.
