From the past records, we learn about the use, and the content broadcasted on televisions in the early days after invention. Mostly it was political news and sports news and some family shows. Technological advancements, product inventions, and cultural changes have led to vast growth in Television industry even regarding coverage. From the current situation, I feel that television has played a role in the current youth and adult behavior by promoting immoral sexual behaviors like premarital sex, homosexuality, and adultery. The media has as well assumed women as sex objects, especially in music videos and advertisements, creating sexual stereotypes that affect how we relate to masculinity and feminism.
In most television shows, sex is considered as a topic open to discussions. Broadcast of most of these shows occur during prime hours, and so, most children and other general viewers capture and generate information. Children and some adults as well are affected by sexual scenes that influence their attitude towards sex. For instance, television advertisements convey a particular message about sexuality. The media considers a Masculine man as the “real man” and slim models as the attractive women while making commercials. As a fan of some MTV shows, I often tend to admire the sense of fashion in some artists and actors and put on similar clothes. The media influence the type of language I use and the tone, for instance, after watching movies with lots of ‘f’ words I find myself using the phrases later in my conversations. The media also influence me on beauty and attractiveness definition due to for example the characters used in advertisements.
