Sexual Scripts

I believe that sexual scripts are still gendered because we are still attached to many of the same ideas that previous generations had. When we look at some of the female and male sexual scripts that exist today we can see that very little has actually changed, men are supposed to be in charge and men cannot control their sexual desires. While women are supposed to look good, should not be experienced, and should not talk about sex.
When looking at some of these scripts it easy to see why and how sexual scripts slip over into other areas that are not really related to sex. A great deal of the sexism that is seen in the world could be traced back to sexual scripts. The idea that men should be charge may have a relation to gender pay gaps. In the last couple of years, we have seen the backlash over school dress codes. The majority of the issues have been related to girls wearing clothes that the school feels may distract boys. It also makes it difficult for women and men to really understand the female body. Women are in constant conflict over their desires and the way they are told they should behave and it creates confusion. Women should be sexy and attractive, but still innocent and not too experienced. Women who step outside of the norms are often called names and treated differently. It also creates a problem when women are raped, they often feel that it was their fault and do not report it. Men are supposed to be strong, in charge, and unemotional, this might confuse and frustrate men that do not automatically fall into those categories.
