Human Sexualities is unlike any other class I have ever experienced. It has given me the insight and knowledge about our everyday lives, which now makes sense to me. I have learned about the sexual reproductive system for both men and women, the physiology behind the sexuality, gender roles and scripts, and many more topics of discussion. Therefore, it has also given me the opportunity to learn more about myself. As a child I was not a very sexual person or even very “myself” around the opposite sex. In fact, I was always a very quiet and shy kid, which meant I was a “late bloomer” when it came to me developing in terms of my sexuality. I did not have many friends who were girls because of this intimidation factor until probably high school. …show more content…
I am able to gather all of the information and topics talked about in class, however I am better at retaining this information than actually talking about this information to my group. My belief is that maybe it is the result of me being completely sheltered as a child about these topics, and now it just does not feel easy to talk about. For instance, some conversation about sexual position and the stages about sex I found difficult to listen to as well as talk about. It just felt awkward and found it hard to talk about with other people in my group. But the topic that I thought was the worst was child birth. And yes, I already knew a lot about it and what actually happens inside of the body to produce a new one. The worst thing for me was to actually watch a real childbirth. I was extremely grossed out and had nothing to say or add about the subject once-so-ever after I felt I was scarred. I am just really bad about intense visuals like that and I will always be that way. However, it was something that I am glad I was able to sit through because the knowledge that was learned at that time was abundant and well worth the …show more content…
Thankfully, a condom is always 100% worth the investment because I would be distraught if I was to have a child at such a young age. I want to be able to plan my life and experience it way before I even think about having a child of my own. I was astonished to find out the amount of people that to not use a condom during sex and are risking having a child every time two people have sex. However, when it comes to myself, I want to be able to be more comfortable with talking about these sexual topics because these are interesting topics that are essential to understand. When I have children of my own, I can not be frightened to talk about human sexuality like my parents potentially were to me, no matter how odd I may feel it is to talk about. I have to teach my children about what is right and what is wrong and the human sexuality that all of us have to learn. They must have an education and learn about these subjects at a young enough age so they truly understand what the body goes

The research for this project involves a series of primary sources from the Sexual Freedom League’s file at Indiana University’s Kinsey Institute. The materials I found in the SFL box span the time period of 1971-1977, with the majority coming from the early part of the decade. They can roughly be generalized as 1) internal notes, memos, letters, and flyers that pertain to the work and perspectives of the organization itself, and 2) newspaper clippings, articles, pamphlets, brochures, and publications collected from other external resources that have to do with a much broader range of issues related to gender and sexuality. I use these sources throughout my essay to achieve three main goals: to contextualize the league in the broader context…

Homosexuality has always been a controversial topic in the United States, especially last year when the law changed for same-sex individuals are now able to get married. I attended a Catholic private school in middle school, in which we learned about God and the Bible. We were taught that people could be gay but that they could not act upon it, but it was best not to be gay because that not what God intended us to be. The idea of being gay was so abstract, I always wonder if a person was born that way or choose to be that way. I remember having my first experience of close friends coming out to me as a lesbian.…

For my human sexuality class, I was to conduct a sexual interview with an individual focusing on sexuality. We were to ask questions focusing on the individual’s attitudes and feelings towards sexuality and any misconceptions they may have held about sexuality. This activity also allowed the interviewer to become aware of their own feelings and attitudes about sexuality during the interview. I intentionally wanted to conduct this interview with a male, because asking questions around sexuality with males is an issue I am still learning to become comfortable with. Working as a family based therapist I have to ask questions surrounded around sexual activity, sexual trauma, and being to provide parents and adolescent with resources about sexual education.…

Knowing the importance and how effective they are is not something only parents should be knowledgeable about. Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of sex education throughout the United States and they say contraceptives, such as condoms, are very protective from HIV/AIDS. When using a condom during sex, it drastically provides safety from HIV/AIDS 10,000 times more, than not using one. Wouldn’t the parent of a sexual active teenager, want that, more than them not using anything at all? Also, people who are allergic to latex, cannot use that has an excuse not to use one; because there are latex free condoms available.…

Being a part of a Human Sexuality course has definitely opened my eyes to many different topics and issues that are occurring around the world. I believe I have lived a very sheltered life after learning about some of these topics, because I hadn’t even heard of most of them. I liked to think I knew all there was to know about human sexuality simply because I understood sexual intercourse, STI`s, and using protection. But human sexuality involves much more than those three things. Three of the major topics that have made me really think about how uneducated I was in regards to human sexuality were sexual birth defects, gender identity and gender roles, and sexual assault.…

I remember very well my first biology class in school back in the early 2000. A class attended by both boys and girls. We were supposed to be educated about our genital organs by our male teacher. But I do not remember much of what was explained, maybe because very little was really explained. However, I remember many other things about this day; my teacher’s red cheeks and avoidant looks, the secretive laughs of my male colleagues and the intentional absence of my female colleagues who were very shy to attend.…

At the beginning of the semester, I was not sure what I was getting into by taking this course. I figured I was not only going to learn new things, but also be disgusted or uncomfortable about some of the topics and information. Human sexuality is not a topic that people are very open about, which can lead to confusion or misunderstanding surrounding certain topics. After a few weeks into the course, I quickly realized I did not know near the amount of information I thought I did regarding human sexuality. Even some of the basics, like the correct name for certain actions or areas of the body, I was unaware of.…
