Sexual Orientation Sexual orientation is known to be the classification of individuals according to their preference for emotional-sexual relationships with persons of the same sex, persons of the opposite sex, or persons of either sex. This problem first originated in 1924 and the people who were affected by it are the LGBT, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. Sexual Orientation has always been present but has recently been made a bigger deal since June 26, 2015, the U.S Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the right for same-sex couples to marry in all 50 US states. On April 19, Target corporate says, “We believe that everyone—every team member, every guest, and every community—deserves to be protected from discrimination, and treated equally. Consistent with this belief, Target supports the federal Equality Act, which provides protections to LGBT individuals, and opposes action that enables discrimination. In our stores, we demonstrate our commitment to an inclusive experience in many ways. Most relevant for the conversations currently underway, we welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity. As a target employee myself there have been many incidents in regards to the new Target restroom and fitting room policy established by the CEO Brian Cornell. On May 8, 2016, an incident at the Target in San Bernardino occurred when five men stand in front of the store and happen to bring picket signs and megaphones and start shouting at the customers who walk in and at the ones walking, “You guys are demons for walking into that store” “Do you guys not love god?” “Love is not between two women or two men”, it was honestly alarming because we did not know what they were capable of.
