The role of the Human Resources professional must be a constantly evolving, fluid process. As the world changes, so should the way businesses choose to approach diversity. One issue facing the business world is the issue of workplace diversity and how to balance religious freedom and personal beliefs with the current worldly acceptance of various sexual orientations. Mathis, Jackson and Valentine state that, “Approximately 9 million Americans identify themselves as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender” (2014, p. 3-4). This statistic sheds light on a potential demographic of workers. Changes to laws, such as the Affordable Care Act, and rulings such as Obergefell v. Hodges, have turned a spotlight upon diversity in the workplace.

The area of integrating sexual orientation issues within the workplace is no exception to this. In order for sexual orientation issues to be introduced into the workplace, human resource managers need to first communicate why sexual orientation issues are needed to be handled a certain way. The combination of a management system which goes first in introducing properly felt with sexual orientation issues within the workplace, and which acts in such a way that can be followed, with the presentiment of valid reasons as to why doing so is important will greatly impact the effectiveness of implementing sexual orientation rules into any modern workplace environment. Properly handling integration of sexual orientation diversity within the workplace is vital in supporting the concept of inclusiveness to the workplace. Even though the individuals who work for a company may not feel be in complete agreement with the lifestyle choices of other individuals who come to work for their organization, this inclusiveness allows for full exploitation of all the talent available in the labor market. If an organization chooses not to consider these individuals in benefits programs, they are truly limiting themselves when it comes to the success their company might be able to …show more content…
Modern technology can be used to survey employees on their experience of fair treatment and diversification within the organization. With the help of technology, it actually is entirely possible to be sure the levels of diversification within the workplace are where they need to be.
