Sexual Orientation And Parenting Article Analysis

Decent Essays
The article by Stacey and Biblarz focused on sexual orientation and parenting and studying its affect on the children being raised. The article first started out by talking about heterosexism and how that is keeping same sex couples from being able to have children of their own. It then focused on studies that have been conducted on the topic of sexual orientation and parenthood. Many studies were done and a lot of the conclusions that were determined were “no differences” between children raised by same sex or heterosexual parents. In many of the studies the evidence showed this was not actually true. Children of lesbigay parents are more likely to be open to homoerotic relationships than children of heterosexual parents. It was also

Many people tend to not care about politics or anything of that nature. However E.J. Graff presents a very valid point. She states “No biggie, some people think: Just write a will and some health care proxies, appoint a guardian, and you're all set (4). However it is not that easy as may think. E.J. Graff thoroughly evaluated her claim and made a lot of valid points on the continuous revolving issue of the homosexuals and adoption rights.…

I found FUN HOME by Alison Bechdel an interesting read which I believe comprises of a story that revolves around of mainly gender roles, homosexuality, and fatherhood. FUN HOME which I found was a story that's nearly as complicated as the author’s childhood itself. Moreover, the main story was about her father and her struggling with gender roles since they were both struggling in realizing their homosexuality and struggling with understanding their sexual orientation. I find that it’s also due homosexuality that caused her father to act the way he did when she was a child. Throughout the book there were clues of this in her childhood like her refusal to grow her hair long, or reluctance to wear dresses, skirts, or jewelry.…

However, there are a few flaws in this claim. How can it be proven that there is no negative effect by a child being brought up by homosexuals parents compared to heterosexual parents? In addition, how is a gay married couple easier to acknowledge? Either way, the child would have two fathers or two mothers, and it would be far from the traditional marriage. Even though it would be a step closer to the traditional family, it is still far from traditional. Even with a strong argument, Sullivan had flaws in his claims and…

Blaming the parent/families? Young’s argument for families and gangs uses Charles Murray as an example who concludes that gangs “directly links” to the “non traditional families” ( Young et. al., 2014). Murray states that ‘non traditional’ families that comprise of just one single parent normally the ‘single mother’ is an immediate indication and cause for young gangs and violence.…

There are also many children of same sex couples who go on to be psychologically healthy members of society. They are not traumatized by being raised by gay marriage but often end up being upstanding citizens who are more understanding and empathetic than other members of society. It’s also important to note that many children who identify as gay, lesbian or transgender or often physically, verbally or mentally abused by their parents due to their sexual orientation. Is it not better that they are raised in a home that nurtures them rather that a home that abuses them? It’s unreasonable to think that opposing sex couples are better suited to raise…

“If you keep the sex of a child secret, you are making it the most important thing about that child, not the least” (Timson, 2011, para. 6). People often become skeptical if they meet an individual who seems to have the physical traits of a certain gender but their actions are of the opposite sex. It is quite inevitable for society to not wonder about a person’s gender if he/she does not identify with his/her biological gender. With the use of sarcasm, Timson criticized Witterick and Stocker’s decision of not revealing the gender of their 3rd child, using sarcastic language, polls surveys and personal beliefs.…

Gay marriage is such an arguementive and aggressive topic in today’s society. Even though it is becoming legal many people still have their own opinions on this topic that will not change. In the article I read it talks about children who are adopted into families with homosexual parents. The author is not talking to one particular group of people. He is more or less likely trying to bring attention to all groups of people both young and old.…

Quotation: “Despite the hegemonic discourse that sexuality is irrelevant to children, schooling cultures and official educational documents consistently construct children as heteronormative subjects with heterosexual futures, even when sexual knowledge is absent in the curricula”. (Robinson & Davies, 208, p. 222) One of the main key points which Robinson and Davies express are issues relating around sexuality as not being an essential part of a child’s identity. This is shown through the fact that children are represented as “‘too young’ and ‘innocent’ to understand sexuality or sexual knowledge” (Robinson & Davies, 2008, p. 222). We are shown how children aren’t given the opportunity to make decisions for themselves and how it is socially…

As someone who always wanted to create family tree, I decided that’s this project is a good opportunity for me to do a family tree about my family in regard to sexuality. At first, it seems like a tough and daunting task for me because I found it difficult to ask my parents and grandparents about things such as, sexual violence, sexual orientation and affairs, etc. However, as I get to know more about my family’s personal experiences when it comes to sexuality, I realized that there are a lot of things that I didn’t know before. Little did I know that my great-aunt used to suffer from constant physical abuse and domestic violence from her own husband when I was little or the fact that my uncle has gone through a divorce when I haven’t born…
