I intentionally wanted to conduct this interview with a male, because asking questions around sexuality with males is an issue I am still learning to become comfortable with. Working as a family based therapist I have to ask questions surrounded around sexual activity, sexual trauma, and being to provide parents and adolescent with resources about sexual education. It seems I have just received very new cases with teenage males. I considered this assignment is a very good exercise to help increase my ability to work with males.
To give a demographics about the person I conducted this sexual interview with, he is a 24 year old African American male. The highest level of education the interviewee received is a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Sports Administration. He would give me one word answers and not go into great detail. I could tell that he was a little hesitant and he didn’t want to go into great detail with his answers. Looking at his body language and tone of voice I instantly assured him that he can answer these questions open and honestly. As the interview progressed he became more relaxed and he was able to answer questions more openly. Seeing him more relaxed helped me to become more comfortable completing the interview. By the end of the questions his responses were flowing very naturally and not forced by my probes or rewording of
