In this Psychology scientific article, Shilkret and Masling attempt to find out if there is a relationship between oral dependence and dependent behavior and whether the sex of the participants play any role in the results. They categorized the participants as high or low dependent based on the ROD test. Then they used a series of difficult puzzles that require asking for help to measure the participants’ dependent behavior.
The researches accomplish their goals pretty well. They found out that there is indeed a positive relationship between high oral dependency and dependent behavior in males. However, the results were the opposite in females. Thus, the sex of the participants does play a role in the study.
The researchers structure the article in a good way. They begin by presenting an abstract followed by an introduction about oral dependency and the previous research that were done about the same topic.
