Sexual Exploitation Of Women In The Media Research Paper

Great Essays
I have chosen the topic of Sexploitation in the media, which is the sexual exploitation of people’s bodies in the media, for the media’s benefit. It is a very common problem, and it is everywhere. When a person can be sexualized even by simply eating a burger, is when you know we have reached a problem with advertisements. If prostitution is illegal, then why can the media make money on others people’s bodies?

I am going to use those two images to explain the issue with Sexploitation and Women, which will be my opening images for that section. I think they both have a big message, for showing how women are portrayed in the media. Whether it be over sexualized, or obnoxiously skinny these are relevant in the media today.

I chose these two ads, to show it isn’t just

For the ethical standpoint, I will be as professional as possible by trying to not use bias, or false information. Yes the subject matter is unethical, but I do not want my speech to be portrayed that way. I will also respect my audience’s values, because although we may or may not share the same ideas, I want to be able to relate, without overlapping on their own beliefs .

I was going to use Humor/Satire, and Seriousness. In my speech the use of humor, can show how absurd some ways sex is thrown out to our media (for example, the Big Mac.) Seriousness is another tone that will work well, because the lasting effects of the media and sex can be everlasting for

Woman are continually sexualized in the media in attempt to sell products. Jean Kilbourne, author of the essay “Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt”, discusses how women are sexually exploited throughout television. Noël Sturgeon, writer of Environmentalism in Popular Culture: Gender, Race, Sexuality, and the Politics of the Natural, writes how this vulgar ideology is becoming “natural” in our society. This was the research said: “...they also discussed the way in which women are portrayed in the media, how advertisers target their campaigns to decide how they, the students, should spend their money, the ways in which products are marketed after a blockbuster film to saturate the market and make huge profits, the notion of web TV, the glorification / presentation of violence on TV, film and video games, children 's programs on Television, and many other such issues (Yelland)". The first pro in the article is that women have been misused or abused in the entertainment business (ex. modeling or pornography). One of the first incidents was the Jennifer Lawrence seen naked in her pictures. I believe that is highly offensive in ways I can not say about this, but if the women in America choose to follow that lifestyle, then it shouldn 't be our problem. The first con in the article is that advertisers have been targeted in a campaign how students would spend their money (ex. college funds).…

When is comes to the topic of objectification of women in the media, most of us will readily agree that men should stop objectifying women in there music. Where this argument usually ends, however, is on the question if women are objectifying themselves. Whereas some are convinced that women should stop contributing to their objectification, others maintain women should have the ability to do what the wish. Jill Neumann argues these misogynistic songs are on one side enjoyable however they are also sending mixed singles to society. Neumann's theory of women contributing to the culture of misogyny is extremely useful because it sheds insight on the difficult problem of women not being able to express themselves.…

In today’s society we commonly refer to women as a “sex symbol”. Even if we do not literally say it, we see examples of it every day in the media. As we drive on the highway, we pass large billboards of headless women in little lingerie outfits. Generally, they are skinny, large-breasted women. When we watch a Dallas Cowboy’s game on the TV, we see shots of the Cowboy’s cheerleaders in their tight, skimpy, outfits jumping around and shaking their pomp oms.…

Henthorne says that It’s very common now for a reader of any age to pick up a magazine and see provocative models and celebrities for many consumer products. Furthermore, George Belch says how advertisers assume that “sex sells” has also been noticed in numerous articles both in the general and business media. Even though it is very effective to use nudity and sex appeal to attracting attention, there happens to be a negative to it. Ad surveys showed that ads with sexuality and more nudity judged least appealing and lowered the company's reputation. Bello, Pitts, and Etzel (1983) conducted an experiment on commercial ads and how sexual ads appealed to everyday people.…

In modern day America, there is hardly a time when an individual can do anything without being barraged by ads, whether it be on one’s phone, computer, or simply walking down the street. Most advertisement people see usually depicts women participating in actions that could suggest sexual intent, to endorse products that have nothing to do with the way they are being portrayed. Clearly there are numerous problems with the way of thinking ads today are promoting through the objectification of women, and now occasionally men. However the objectification of the genders has been a long ongoing battle for quite some time now as advertisement has long capitalized on stereotypes of women and the sexual interests of men, going far enough to create…

During this semester of the class “Sex and Dating” we had discussed a variety of topics which include chastity and abstinence, pornagraphy, cohabitation, dignity and respect, love marriage, family, dating, and lastly two movies, “Groundhog Day” and “The Emperor 's Club.” With all of these topics comes a huge debate from the teachings of the church to the stance if the people. The discussions that we have had in class based on these topics have really influenced the classes thought process about it, plus it was a great learning experience. These lessons have not just taught me important ideas of the topic of Sex and Dating but it has gave the class a wonderful learning experience especially on topics that basically barely anyone was comfortable to even dare to ask a question. Hopefully we will be able to apply all that we have learned down the road.…
