Sexual Assault Reflection Essay

I was aware that many sexual assaults occur while in college, but I never would have thought that there would be a statistic of 95% for unreported sexual assaults, because victims, regardless of sex, gender or sexuality, do not have confidence that either their story will be believed and that their university will not completely humiliate her. I think that when it comes down to having to deal with a university issues with athletes and sexual assaults, in this situation the university tries to stay out of it but they really cannot and therefore will mostly side with the athletics because they would be losing money if anything happened to him. The biggest impact this class has caused me is that it has probably made me more willing to talk about sex related things more openly to others and actually question what and why people are so sexually unhappy. The biggest question that I have probably been trying to solve all semester had to deal with people committing sex crimes as a way of showing power and control and why it was so important to show this dominance through a sex crime. I think I am finally able to understand what you were trying to say. If showing power and control was the only need that needed to be satisfied people could have just robbed them or they could have just stolen their car. Or even take it a step farther to increase the pain inflicted the attacker can physically cause harm to his victim and gain pleasure that way. But instead, the attacker has the need to complete the act of sex. I think the reason why they make having sex a part of showing dominance is because sex is such a prized possession for many women that the fact they can just take but forcing them into having sex with them, make the attacker feel the most powerful because he has taken away something that is not a materialistic
