However, this is not to say that it does not happen to males who attend; it may be occurring less and or reported less. It can be extrapolated from the RAINN’s 2006 report; wherein it was found that males make up 10% or more of sexual assault victims, that there must be numerous unreported cases of this occurring to male school leavers during schoolies.
Numerous research endeavors document a myriad of harmful effects experienced by victims of sexual assault. The psychological and emotional effects include: intense fear of death and disassociation during the assault; anxiety and ongoing fears; feelings of low self-esteem, self-blame, and guilt; shock, confusion, and denial; self-harm, suicidal ideation and attempted suicide; and post-traumatic stress disorder.
