From being cat-called on the streets to being raped the fear of sexual assault is never ending for women. For boys egithteenght birthdays they go celebrate the night on the town. For girls they are given pepper spray for their protection, it’s even painted pink just for her. Walking home alone at night for women is a different story. They were taught to hold their keys between their knuckles, walk fast, and have situation awareness all at the same time. How vitally important it is for women to watch their drinks in the bar and to always travel in groups. To yell fire not rape because people will respond to that better. We teach women ways to not get raped, but when do we teach society not to rape. “1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime (14.8% completed rape; 2.8% attempted rape).” (Tjaden,Thoennes page 3) It is ridiculous how big these …show more content…
It’s not just women who get sexually assaulted,“About 3% of American men — or 1 in 33 — have experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime.” (Tjaden,Thoennes page 3) Men are so under looked with sexual violence because it doesn 't happen to them as much as it does to women. I think that this is sad, how we basically turn a blind eye to the men vitims. Also it seems like we don’t want to recognize that women can be the assaulter too. How men have came forward with women assaulting them and people want to almost make fun of them; because he’s a man and he should be lucky to receive attention from a woman. It’s ridiculous how no one believes the vitims but even more when no one wants to believe that it happens to men too. I think that male victim cases should get more publicity when it happens so that more light can be shed on the issue. No one should be swept under the rug in this kind of situation because everyone
