Sexual assault, defined by the United States Department of Justice as “any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the recipient” (“Sexual Assault | OVW | Department Of Justice”), is a serious crime that is taking place across the country including on college and university campuses. When there is an occurrence of a sexual assault being reported to the educational institution, the establishment will administer their own investigation and hearing to determine whether the accused is responsible for the assault along with the extent of punishment to be bestowed upon said accused in the event they are found responsible.
