Sexual Assault at Indiana State University One in four college women and one in six males are sexually assaulted. It is important as students at universities to take control in preventing sexual assaults at Indiana State University. It is important to acknowledge that sexual assault is an issue within universities, and action needs to be taken in order to provide a safe environment for everyone at Indiana State University. It is the job of students to raise awareness about sexual assault at Indiana State, and other schools around the country. Sexual assault doesn’t only affect women, it also affects males and it is often looked at as something that doesn’t happen to men. Stranger attacks are also the least common forms of sexual assault. I chose to be a part of the sexual assault group because I know sexual assault is common with college students, and I know a lot of students choose to drink alcohol and enjoy their weekends which could create situations where sexual assault can occur. I also joined to raise awareness about the overbearing fear of stranger assault, and the lack of fear in acquaintance assault. The fact that most sexual assaults occur when around peers and the assailant being an acquaintance is upsetting, and I want to make sure all students are aware of the dangers. Another reason I chose the sexual assault group is to make sure everyone on campus understands that many sexual assault victims don’t press charges because of fear or confusion. Being a big group there wasn’t much work for everyone to do, but collectively we worked well in smaller groups to come up with a great open letter to Indiana State University. I would give all my group members an A for working well together even though our group size was very hard to work with. Everyone responded to emails and met accordingly. Everyone tried their hardest to make it to meetings and interviews, and because of that I think the group did well together. We all truly agreed that sexual assault among college students is an issue that requires action. As a group I think we started the action out well, and really conveyed our message to our peers on our campus and other campuses. If a group of people believe in the same thing they can all take action and make sure information is shared with their peers and the public. As a group I believe we did well on our open letter to the school. It was well framed and really got our message across, and I think because of the open letter that students will know have useful information, understand the dangers outside, and know that they can say no and its
