Title IX also requires schools getting federal money to investigate sexual assault complaints both fairly and equally. The 1990 Clery Act provides a bill of rights for campus sexual assault victims and also requires colleges that take federal funds to make crime statistics public. The Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act takes the Clery Act one step further by requiring campus crime reports to include statistics about dating, stalking, and domestic violence. By making it mandatory for colleges and universities to publish these statistics, the schools will have more motivation to inform students about sexual assault and make punishments more serious. Colleges and Universities are dealing with serious crimes like robberies and aggravated assault everyday.” So what Carter is saying is that if the proper training is provided, colleges and universities should be able to take care of crimes which occur on their campuses. The topic of sexual assault is extremely sensitive and all cases are highly encouraged and recommended to be reported. Students should be able to feel safe while at school and be able to go to someone in the school’s faculty when they have a problem. By properly training faculty, colleges and universities will be able to investigate sexual assaults on their campuses and hopefully decrease the number of cases so that students feel safe at their home away from
