Firstly, one of the most important reasons for the play’s success was the use of its story. The story based on the 2012 Steubenville High School, after a party last Saturday night, when a girl, Chloe was passed out intoxicated and was raped by a gang of football players. Some of those guys were foolish enough to record and document the rape, then post it on social media. Throughout the splay, there are two different types of narration. One type was the self-narration done by the main actress character, and the other type was the god-like narration done by Malaisian Parker’s character Deirdre. The self-narration was used by Ashley Ragsdale’s character Chloe, who was a girl that became the victim of sexual assault. The audiences could see clearly the use of self-narration when Chloe was able to show her confusion, embarrassment, and especially what her character was thinking throughout the whole suffering. Moreover, a similar tactic was used by Shaun Platt’s character Connor. He was a super star of the football club, after rape abuse he acted like he did not do anything wrong in real life. However Connor’s self-narration showed the audiences that he realized that he had done something wrong and was feeling guilty about what he did to Chloe that night. The god-like narration which was used by Deirdre was so unique. During the whole play, every individual character gave their point of views of what had happened. Each view is considered as a twist version of what really happened to make the whole circumstance not seem as bad as what happened in the real life. The audiences appreciated Deirdre because she gave them an accurate representation of the story. Once a character reminded his or her story, Deirdre immediately would turn back
