As generations have progressed, technology has followed. Sexting is defined as sending someone sexually explicit photographs or messages via mobile phone. In society today, sexting has many negative connotations, especially tied to teens and young adults. Studies have shown that there are positive sides to sexting, when used in a healthy manner. As research progresses on the topic, we begin to see the mental impact of sexting. In studying different studies, we see the positive impact of sexting in young adult relationships. In these studies, sexual and relationship satisfaction grows as well as communication skills and low health risks. According to the Taylor & Francis Group, “Trust, intimacy, and gratification of communication have been shown to be significant characteristics which help to predict the satisfaction an individual has in their romantic relationships, specifically relationships which begin in an online forum.” Building these forms of communication promotes a healthier opportunity for communication, therefore combatting the negative stigma society has attached to sexting. In opening and building trusting communication, young adults experience more trust and creativity from their partners while sexting.
