Sexting is the involvement of sending explicit photos, images, and text messages or e-mails by using a cell phone or mobile device. "There has been 20% of teens who have sent or posted nude or semi-nude photos or videos of themselves and a 39% of teens that sent sexually suggestive messages via text, email or instant messaging.", according to Guardchild.com. To diminish these percentages one can take steps as to inform their child about self-respect; so that they won 't lower their self worth from sending explicit photos and messages, to enforce the laws against sexting, and for parents to monitor their child 's devices. By doing so one can see a significant change in the amount of teens sexting, and that over time sexting will be non existant. …show more content…
Knowingly possessing it, even without sending it on to another person, is illegal." A vast majority of sexting teens affect their school life as well as their home life. Therefore, schools should work with law enforcement to educate teens of the harm of sexting. Crackdown on the policy and procedures on handling teen sexting.
A drastic, but well needed, efforts to help teens from sexting and nip it in the butt at an early age would be for the parents to monitor their child 's phone. Parents should consider a formal monitoring system to track their young teens use on the Internet as well as their cell phone usage.
"Place your family’s communal computers in a public area of your home, such as the living room or kitchen. Make sure your children know that you monitor their devices for what websites they are viewing" stated on wikiHow, which may help prevent them from curiously looking up sexting or engaging in it online. By keeping track of their child 's chats and image content will surely help diminish the amount of teen sexting. The parents should be transparent and surly let their teens know what they are doing so there isn 't any trust

I agree with the author for a lot of reasons. a few of those reasons being that he explains why teens deserve and at the same time don’t deserve privacy. the author states that if use spyware then you should tell you child because they will have a heads up as to what you are going to do. Harlan coben (the author of the undercover parent) gives examples of friends who have used spyware and saw that their son or daughter were doing illegal activities or were doing stuff that went against the parents. Coben goes on to explain how the article can be a dangerous place.…

According to Rosin, parents should consider them lucky because sexting does not create sexual dynamics it reveals sexual dynamics. Elizabeth Englander, a psychology professor at Bridgewater State University, finds a vast category of women, mostly called ‘Pressured sexters’ who share nude pictures out of insecurity, vulnerability and peer pressure. Sending texts to those they do not know well is not a kind of trust relationship they form with them. There is a risk involved that the picture can get out but usually it does not happen. The teens consider it as flirting or being sexually active rather than a crime.…

It’s none of their business, why should the parents be able to spy on what teens do. Most teens do go and see what they post daily or who their friends are. You may argue that the Internet creates an unsafe environment, but it can be argued that it is a great learning tool. The Internet is filled with valuable information. It may also be said that the internet is dangerous because of cyber bullying and unknowingly talking to a stranger.…

    Harlan Cowen Analysis

I agree with Harlan Coben because the internet can be dangerous if not careful . The proper way that I think would be most effective would be just tell your teens to look out for certain things that may be dangerous. Also if you are planning on spying on your kids at least advise them you are doing so , because that would be wrong to invade their privacy. In Cobbins argumentative / persuasive essay , his argument was similar to mine because he supports the the fact of spying but also defended the privacy of teens. One reason to support the fact of monitoring kids would be that it may support them by reducing their chances of getting in trouble.…

Coben, the author of “The Undercover Parent,” believes that parents should put spyware on their children’s computers to protect them from the dangers of the internet. Spyware is software that you can download onto any computer that allows you to to monitor everything that your child is doing on that computer. I agree with Coben that parents should monitor their children’s internet use; however, I don’t agree that they should use spyware to do so because it is an invasion of privacy. Parents should monitor their children’s internet use by occasionally checking to see what they are doing online. By monitoring their internet use this way, the children will still have privacy, but their parents still know what they are doing online.…

The criminal penalties for teen sexting are too severe of an impact for adolescents who sext. Since sexting laws are derived from child porn laws, they have very similar penalties. Minors are being charged as adults such as the North Carolina teen sexting case with Cormega Copening and Brianna Denson. Where if Copening and Denson did not plead guilty to a lesser charge, they would have had to spend about ten years in jail and register as a sex offender for life (Matharu). As a result of these potential charges, it hinders the adolescent’s future by affecting common reputation and carries harsher consequences, such as exclusion from jobs or housing, harassment,…

Children are curious by nature; the urge to explore the unknown is in their blood. Generations ago, the unknown might have involved the outdoors or the wilderness. Today, the “unknown” that children know of and wonder about is on the internet. Inquisitiveness can be a good thing, but when the curiosity of kids, and especially teens, is paired with the wide array of possibilities on the internet, a potentially dangerous situation may be created. In the article “The Undercover Parent,” Harlan Coben writes about the hazards of the internet world, and what parents can do to protect their kids from them.…
