Sexting Cyber Children Summary

In the article “Sexting Cyber children: Gender, Sexuality, and Childhood in Social Media and Law” Joe Rollins argues that the advancements in technology when used in harmful ways is drawing media attention and causing potential dangers to children and young adults. Rollins incorporates law, culture, and policy and how society needs to adapt in order to prevent the legal system of condemning young adults as criminals, in these cases he says “scholarly analysis of this new, technology mediated trend must take into account not only legal developments, but also the cultural changes in dominant conceptions of gender, sexuality, and childhood” (Rollins 58). Rollins is very specific is which cases he invests his time in, he uses Page Real Estate to identify each of the major cases in the article. Each case is about a page and a half in length using an allotment of ink to provide significance in that claim. Each case identifies some importance to his argument and how it plays a key role in Rollins argument.
Joe Rollins uses three cases all resulting in the same questions leading back to gender identity and sexual orientation and how these two elements are causing controversy in court cases involving sexting. In using the three cases Rollins is able to depict the information provided from the court cases and explain in depth the problematic situations that need to change. Each case involves a narrow audience being individuals or scholars in gender studies and in using these certain cases it raises concern in what led up to the sentencing and why and how it pertains to gender and
