Sexist School Dress Codes Changing clothes, embarrassed faces, and angry students have been a result of the dress code. All around the country, the school dress codes are getting harsher and harsher each year. Many of these rules have caused discomfort in many female students across the nation. The school dress code is unfairly directed towards females, it sexualizes the female body, and humiliates students whenever they get chastised for breaking the rules. As the school dress codes get more and more intense, it seems that most of the rules are directed towards females, not males. Asking girls to bend over in front of a group of students is some of the worst humiliation possible. Females are being publicly humiliated when they should be pulled aside if they even are truly breaking the dress code. The school dress code is wrong to humiliate females over a rule that they might not even be breaking. On the contrary, school dress codes can be important for all students. For instance, schools are trying to ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment by following the dress code (Zhou). School dress codes are meant to make sure students are prepared for their future jobs and life. Continuing, Marisa Milone told her opinion on it from her experience, “The idea was that they couldn’t all be put in detention, could they? Yes. They could, and they did.” Schools should do whatever it takes to keep students in line. Overall, the school dress code is biased towards females, it sexualizes the female body and humiliates the female students. The rules harass females, blaming them for showing skin, distracting male students with their bodies, and taking away any rights they have by directing the rules at them.
