An example of sexism today against women can be seen through the pink tax and the unfair pricing of products aimed for the purchase by women. Men and women usually need and buy the same type of products, but generally they buy the items that are aimed for the specific gender. Razors and shampoo are priced higher for women than men. These products that are aimed toward women “through packaging, description or name, might cost up to 50% more than similar products for men” (Maloney 4). Women and men are both likely to buy razors, it is important to realize that on average it can be seen in Table 5 in the NYC study that women are charged an average of $8.90 versus $7.99, which is the price men are being charged for razors (De Blasio and Menin 11). Not to mention that necessities for women are also being taxed for, and there are no other alternatives for these necessities. No other option for women but to spend the money and purchase the products. For example, “currently, women in most states must pay state sales tax on purchases of sanitary products”(Maloney 6).
