Sexism In The Military Essay

The U.S military is a gendered organization dominated by men. In the history of the U.S Military, the public eye does not agree with women being in the military. America is not ready to see women die in combat. Gender relations in the armed forces has been in the public attention. The media have covered the sexual assault cases, women capability in the military, and women in combat. In the article by Cohn, Carol he talks about the underline negative feelings that males in the military have towards women. A sense of angry develops due to the changes in the physical standards in the gendered organization. In his research, a difference in the physical standards for women in the U.S Military is looked as special treatment. He studied consist of interviews mostly with white males Officers in the U.S military. They give an example of “PT protest” is about the gendered norm fitness standards that allow the justification of negative feeling towards women. (Carol, 2000) His studies show the sexism of women in the military. How they are still put down by their peers. Carol relates to my research since it shows the prejudice again women in the military. Kraemer “demonstrated that six months of periodized, resistance training significantly diminished the initial gender differences in physical performance capabilities including military relevant occupational tasks. It also demonstrated the importance of upper-body training in women.” (William, 2001) In the studied done shows how women can be just as good as men. It “diminished” gender difference for physical standards. It also showed how women need to work twice as hard just to get to a male standard and how women have weaker upper bodies compared to men. The study didn’t show how it diminished gender difference but how women need to work harder to get to physical
