In this week learning through readings, videos, the game show exercise I learned a lot about sexism and the different treatment of women and men that I was blind to before. Playing the game of wages I realized the man in the household starts of the job with 55,000 and the women start at 47,850 throughout his career the man gets raises while the women just get a few dollars bumped up. The man ends up with a salary of 100, 00 and the women's ends up with a salary of 75,000 before they retire.
I also learned a lot in the killing us softy video. I already knew women were used as an advertisement. They are used to sell cars, drinks, clothes and almost everything imaginable. I did not know about the photoshop image and how models photos are altered …show more content…
The survey basically rates with two scores. One score is the hostile sexism score, which means the negative feeling men have towards women. My hostile sexism score was 3.64 and that is very high compared to the average score of females in the United States, which was 1.60 and the average male survey for the United States was 2.24. The higher your score the more prejudice feeling you have towards women. The other score was benevolent sexism, which means your belief in the traditional gender roles like the males must take care of the family and the wife must be obedient. I scored a 4.18 in my benevolent sexism score. This score is very alarming. The average male and female score for Benevolent was 2.3 and 2.0 respectively.
Watching Anne Marie Slaughter video I realized how smart she was and the position and the job title she held in Washington. She had a powerful and high-paying job but she left all that to raise her kids and spend time with her family. She believed in women empowerment but the fact that she cared more about raising her family is amazing. One statement she made that resonated with me was that let's make the women empowerment movement a humanitarian
