Throughout the American Crime series, many issues were brought up throughout the season regarding ethical issues. These issues, are most that society does not bring up in open conversation as they are difficult to discuss. These issues include racism, sexism, stereotypes, bigotry, discrimination and many more. The series brought light and attention to these things with an amazing story about a boy in high school who was allegedly rapped by another teen. Many of the scenes were made to make the audience feel uncomfortable and difficult to watch as they have never openly observed the situations which occurred in the show. The show made a clear-cut difference between the two, showing the advantages and disadvantages between them. This compared to everyday life is the stereotypes that people have for our educational system. Many believe that public schools are violent, have poor education, the students use drugs and overall the school lack enforcement. On the other hand, the thoughts of private schools are preppy students, and overpriced education. Not only do these stereotypes segregate communities it forces the school districts to compete for students, financial status and popularity. Another battle that school districts face are the sports in which their students are involved. Leyland took their basketball very seriously as they were one of the best teams around they received a lot of attention and respect from other students and teachers. This gave them an immunity from any problems that they might have faced as they saw them as good students who were amazing teammates. This was nonetheless brought to attention later in the season as the basketball team was put on the spot and was exposed for their issues with each other regarding Eric, a former team captain, the details which they hid that occurred during the captains’ party, the jumping of Taylor tore the entire team apart, and killing of Wes tore the entire team apart all the way up to the coaching staff. During the season Sebastian hacked into the Leyland school account and posted conversations between the board regarding Taylor and the rape case. This put a lot of heat in the board, making Leslie, the headmistress make the rest of the board resign and transfer all of the authority to her. Although many people have issues regarding their online security and their private information, this topic does not often get brought up. In today’s world, almost all sensitive information is on the web, accessible to anyone who knows how to get passed the security. Everything from your cellphone to your laptop cameras can be hacked from thousands of miles away making people who rely on technology vulnerable to hacking. Another hacking situation which occurred during American Crime was when Leslie publicly released Anne Blane’s, health information on the web to try and prove that she was not mentally stable, and that her claims regarding the rape were false. This of course backfired on her, in result having her fired from headmistress of the Leyland school. Although hacking being illegal and it having serious consequences if caught, Sebastian saw himself as a “Robin Hood” helping people that are defenseless and unable to support themselves. Although having a good cause behind his work, and trying to help Taylors family battle the powerful Leyland school, and wealthy families, the act of hacking is
