The chief root of sexism is traditions and stereotypes. Sexism started way back in the 19th Century as a result of traditional beliefs and stereotypes. Some of these beliefs include the belief that women are not eligible to be educated, employed in good jobs, hold public office or take part in any social affair or activity. These stereotypes hold until today. The female gender is seen as weak and without right. This is what has escalated gender discrimination where women are still suffering because of misrepresentation and mistreatment. Some of the impacts of these stereotypes include a reduced number of women working in scientific and technical jobs. Majority of women are working in low valued and poorly paid areas of the economy. This makes them even more vulnerable to discrimination because they do not have the financial strength to support themselves. It keeps them at the feet of men.
