Kids, primarily girls can either be taken from their homes or given up by their families either for money or because they think that they will have a better life in the sex industry. “The reality of child sex trafficking, however, is more disturbing than any fiction Dickens could portray. Not only are these children treated as commodities, but the traffickers trade these children to be assaulted by adults, often condemning them to an unending cycle of sexual abuse, violence, and trauma.” (Leary, 289) There are several ways that traffickers may entice families or young women into the sex industry, first being false –front agencies. “These organizations, which may or may not have a legitimate dimension, promise young women a better life in richer nations such as the United States.” (Hodge, 146) Young women and children in these situations typically can’t afford the cost of transportation and have to enter into an arrangement with the traffickers, who will pay the cost of transportation if the women/children/families agree to repay the cost. The next way for traffickers to find young women (who are the most typical victims) is through local sex industries. “As in the previous method, debt bondage is used to cover the costs of transportation, bribes, procuring false passports for underage girls, and so forth.” (Hodge, 146) Young naïve women are typically unaware of the situation that they get into when going into a type of contract like this. The internet creates a gateway into the sex industry; it gives traffickers a way to advertise and gives them an advantage. Websites can give traffickers an upper hand when promoting the children, they are exploiting because it creates a new world which can be hidden. The rich have more money in order to purchase children for the purpose of sex and the poor who need money are more willing to give up their children for the sex industry.
