Women and children have been exposed to sex trafficking for many years (Hughes, 1999). It became a political problem in the early 1900s (Hughes, 1999). When a female was without proper protection, she could have been enslaved into sex trafficking back then and the same precaution remains today (Hughes, 2013). Sex trafficking, was devised in the 1980’s when female advocates were rioting on the selling of women and girls in prostitution and pornography (Hughes, 2013).

Sex trafficking is defined as enslaving a person for different sexual activity, according to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2015).
