Sex Offenders Analysis

The article on sex offenders was actually a very interesting article to read because it brings up a whole new different level of how congress would like to handle the situation on sex offenders that want to travel. However, I do not agree with the fact the they want sex offenders with special passports just for civilians to be more safer. I am not sure how would this make a difference as to keeping people safe when they are traveling and if anything it makes it worst for the those who have been convicted of that crime and have completed their time and punishment in jail. Marking the passports of sex offenders makes it worst and it takes their rights completely away. Whether people like it or not these people also have families and have every

The specialized caseload model seems like a great improvement over the conventional model. THese caseloads are able to give special supervision to offenders with substance abuse issues, sex offenders, mental health, and offenders with disabilities (Barton & Hansen, 2012). Why do you think it did not show results in the study (Guydish, et al., 2008)? Do you think better results would have been shown with a different population (ex. Males, mental health cases, sex offenders, gang members)?…

I totally agree that sex laws are unjust to sex offenders are ineffective as the economist states. The laws treat the most dangerous offenders and the least dangerous in a similar way that is unjust. Publicizing sex offenders often expose them to vigilantism harassment and also murder in rare cases. Publicizing the sex offenders not only affect them but also affects other family members who are innocent. Even after they complete their probation or jail terms, sex offenders are not given room for reform and are discriminated against especially in job sectors.…

On Chapter 11 of the book, The Myth That Sex Offenders Are Beyond Redemption, the chapter begins off how people and the media subscribes myths about sex offenders, (SOs) that are often misinformed and misguided. Some of the popular myths about SOs that people often get misinformed are: often prey on unsuspecting strangers, high recidivism rates, SO treatment does not work, and they must be monitored closely. However, not all sex offenders do. The majority of sex offenders do not prey to unknown victims but are known to their victims, “sexual perpetrators victimized strangers in about 27 percent of rapes and 15 percent in sexual assaults” (Bureau of Justice Statistic 1997). The myth about sex offenders have high recidivism rates, “Sex offenders with past arrests are more likely…

This shows how unique sexual offenders are as a group and how sex offenses do receive special attention because of the limited information we have on them due to low reporting and low conviction/arrest rates, thus explaining why we treat them differently than other criminals. "Only 344 out of every 1,000 sexual assaults are reported to police. That means about 2 out of 3 go unreported" (RAINN, 2006).…

As with many social problems, the question of labeling a sex offender on a national registry is met with many different options. The different viewpoints of the offender, the victim, the family, and the administrators of justice must all be taken into consideration. This can make it difficult to disperse a clear and uninformed form of justice in these types of crimes. Being placed on the national sex offenders registry changes a person 's life dramatically and I feel the punishment should fit the crime. They are restricted from living and working in certain areas that seem common to regular citizens whose lives are not under constant surveillance.…

Sex offenders are known to reoffend so why would it be a bright idea to protect a crime? People feeling sorry for the sex offenders we identified in 200 should have heard the torment and grief expressed to me from two sexual assault victims (Economist 658). Childhood is supposed to be a time in life to discovery and play, not abuse. Others argue publishing sex offenders name causes humiliation & punish the offender.…

Over the past decade there has been an attempt to control the behaviour of convicted sex offenders who have served their time and been released into the Australian community through a range of public policy initiatives. These initiatives include sex offender registration schemes which operate in every jurisdiction (Vess et al. 2011); post sentence, preventative detention schemes which operate in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia (McSherry 2014); and community notification which operates in Western Australia (Whitting, Day and Powell 2014). A sexually violent offender (SVO) is one who has been convicted of a sexually violent offense and suffers from a mental abnormality or personality disorder. These disorders can make the person more likely to engage in acts of sexual violence if not confined in a secure facility for long-term control, care, and treatment. The provision to what qualifies as sexually violent may differ from state to state, but in general, they are crimes of a sexual nature that belong to a specific constellation of crimes. These crimes include sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape. These acts often result in harming not just the victim but their families, their community, and broader society.…

Jasleen Aujla January 5th, 2015 CLN4U0 Mr. Gill THE SEXUAL OFFENDERS REGISTRY: NOT CRIMINALLY RESPONSIBLE REGISTRANTS Out of the many ironic injustices found in the Canadian justice system, there is perhaps none as tragic as the fate of those who have been found not criminally responsible (NCR) of committing a sexual crime. Instead of allowing for those who have been unfairly accused to repent in solitude, their past haunts them in the form of The Sexual Offenders Registry. It is completely unreasonable to add people who have been found to be NCR of a sexual offence in the Sexual Offenders Registry, as those individuals are less likely to reoffend, have already compensated for the act through psychological rehabilitation, and most importantly,…
