Sex discrimination is relatively self-explanatory, in that it refers to discrimination that is based on the fact that an individual is either a male or female. For example, Cathy work in the social service department which is mainly female and she discovered that she receive half the pay of employees in the planning department which is mainly male, even though both employees work for the same length of time. Sex discrimination is the most highly developed aspect of the EU social policy and has long been considered a core right. Over the years sex discrimination protection development have served a dual purpose firstly, it served an economic purpose in where it helped to eradicate competitive misrepresentations in a market that had grown evermore
