Austin Independent School District Police are reopening two reported sex crime cases at two separate campuses to ensure they weren't mishandled, KVUE and Austin American-Statesman reporter Tony Plohetski learned from Chief Eric Mendez Thursday.

The decision comes after concerns from parents on the handling of an alleged sexual assault of a 4-year-old girl at Boone Elementary School. Police closed the investigation without reviewing medical reports that showed the girl suffered severe trauma that required surgery.

    James Bain Case Study

The case that I chose from the database was the James Bain case. James Bain was an exonerate and he served 35 years in prison from 1974 to 2009. He was falsely accused from eyewitnesses, but what shocked me was the amount of time to find out that he was actually innocent. I chose this case because, even when forensic evidence of his blood showed that he wasn’t the criminal, he was still accused and was sent to prison because of it. His prison sentence was 25 to life, and if it wasn’t for his case re-opening, he would have spent the rest of his life in jail for a crime that he never committed.…

They even made a heartfelt plea on television, radio, and in the local and national newspapers. Friends, neighbors, schoolteachers, bus drivers, sporting groups, and even previously convicted, and known, sex offenders within a 100- mile radius were questioned, but the poor little girl was never found and eventually the case went cold.…

Once talking with the parents, and interviewing the 14 year old victim, I noticed that she was visually shaken up and uncomfortable about the situation. The girl showed me the chatroom conversation, where she had an encounter with someone with the screen name of BJ13. This man asked the 14 year old questions concerning her breast size, he told her how he would love to touch her, and he asked her what her home address is.…

This essay will focus on Megan’s Law, a program in the United States of America that is aimed at deterring the rate of recidivism for offenders who have been convicted of child-related offences. The essay will argue that the theoretical basis is inadequate to achieve the desired result due to the lack of focus on offenders and the negative consequences that all offenders encounter. In July 1994, Jesse Timmendequas, a twice convicted sex offender was charged for the rape and murder of Megan Kanke, a seven-year-old girl who resided in his neighbourhood (SOURCE). The mother of Megan Kanke questioned local authorities on why there was no community notification of a convicted sex offender living in their neighbourhood (SOURCE).…

Sexual assault and rape in the United States of America is reaching new epidemic levels and nothing is being done to stop it. Rape kits sit untested and collecting dust all over the United States and it is estimated that the numbers have reached hundreds of thousands. In places like New York City for example, the backlog of untested rape kits by 2003 had reached 17,000. In order to reduce this epidemic, the country must implement harsher punishments and prioritize educational classes earlier in age in order to emphasize the importance of consent and responsibility.…
