Sex, it is an activity that is widely practiced yet hardly discussed. The very act ensures the survival of many organisms and provides a moment of excitement. In the United States, citizens are constantly bombarded with images of sexual behavior and relationships, many are familiar with the saying of sex sells. Even though sex is deeply rooted in the entertainment industry we rarely discuss the topic of sex with our own children. Instead most adult Americans rely on the school system to provide a necessary amount of information regarding sex. Children need to learn about sex from their parents first. Children must also know if they have been abused by members of their own. This is where the importance of comprehensive sex education taught at school comes in. Sex education should be taught as early as elementary school. If the effects of sexual abuse and recovery of abuse are taught at school, a child will be more inclined to seek help. When I was about nine, I was sexually molested by a family member. I had no idea how or who talk about it with. I had no idea what happened to me, but I knew it wasn’t normal.
