The seventh day is a holy day decreed by God bestowed upon us to rest on the seventh day from our working hours; instead, to worship Him on the Sabbath day. On this day, it commemorates God’s day of rest as He finished the Creation. Referenced from the Genesis, “And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified,” as God created the heavens and the earth in this six periods of time. Hence, the Sabbath venerates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy,” says the Israelites as God renewed a commandment upon this day (Exodus 20:8). However, I find it differently from the ancient times to today’s society of honoring such code of conduct to not work on the Sabbath day. In today’s society, the use of machinery and light is prone to be used because it’s just how society has evolved towards the rapidly evolving economy and technology. We tend to use this advanced productivity because of its usefulness and necessity of having it proactively. However, it’s not always the case of keeping it proactive, but rather keeping it to the minimum usage. Subsequently, the “working” aspect of turning on machinery’s and lights on the Sabbath day is prohibited as it signifies your defiance towards the Lord. Nonetheless, the Lord was the creator as said to Moses to rely to the Israelites, “You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.” This is the day that puts the Israelites upon the Lords foreground as a connection between them if broken the sign would be lost as to the holiness the Lord bestowed upon them.
