Seven Years War Economic Effects

Giovanni da Verrazano was a famous explorer sent by King Francis I in 1524, to explore the region around Newfoundland and Florida to discover a track to the Pacific Ocean. Jacques Cartier boarded upon one of three journeys to explore the St. Lawrence River and the coast of Newfoundland In 1534. Cartier was also responsible for finding a northwest route linking between the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. Numerous colonies were created by the French in America in places such as Parris Island, S.C., Saint Croix Island, Maine, Fort St. Louis, Texas and what is now Jacksonville, Fla. France and Britain both suffered financially because of the war, with significant long-term consequences. The Seven Years' War changed economic, political, and social relations between Britain and its colonies. It through Britain into great debt, approximately doubling the national debt. The ruling family was looking for sources of income to pay off the debt; they chose to force new taxes on its colonies. These taxes were met with increasingly firm struggle and resistance, until troops were called in to make sure that representatives of the ruling family could safely complete their duties of collecting taxes. Over the years, dissatisfaction over the high taxes would gradually rise among the colonists until eventually concluding the American Revolutionary War. In 1778 France returned to North America to support American colonists against Great Britain in the Revolutionary War. The defeat of the military and the financial problems of the Seven Years' War damaged the empire of France and in the end contributed to the beginning of the French Revolution in
