The Seven Days Battle occurred during the summer of 1862. On June 26, Confederate General Robert E. Lee commanded his troops to begin a series of battles. These battles caused McClellan’s Union forces to retreat from Richmond, Virginia. These attacks angered President Lincoln, which then caused him to command General John Pope to lead his troops back to Richmond. This event affected the Civil War because Richmond, Virginia was the Confederate Capital and before the Seven Days Battle the Union had army forces located within the city. For the Confederates, the Seven Days Battle was viewed as General Lee saving the capital which was very important to them. In my opinion if the Seven Days Battle did not occur then the war would have been over sooner.
