However, this does not mean that it has not had its influence on our culture. The obsession of physical beauty is still very relevant today. The sins of beautiful people (or extremely talented or wealthy individuals) are much more easily forgiven than those of ordinary people. Our society idolizes physical beauty and the personality traits of Basil Hallward are still apparent in most individuals in our society. The one aspect of the novel that is not relevant today would be the vilification of homosexuality. This makes me wonder what Oscar Wilde would have thought about how society has turned out
