Asakusa(kundoku way of Senso), Tokyo, Japan. It is not only Tokyo’s(Edo-jo) oldest temple, but also the most significant. During the Tengyo period(938-946) Kimimasa built a gorgeous temple which endowed with rice fields as a votive offering to the Goddess.
When Tokugawa Ieyasu found his military government(Tokugawa bakufu) in Edo(Tokyo) in 1590. The Sensoji Temple changed into the place of worship for the Tokuwaga family. Tokugawa Ieyasu’s new arrangement of the temple area made it becoming even more popular and remained so. Although it has been destroyed several times by the fire, a new building has always been built on the same location on a bigger scale.
With the beginning of Meiji era, the period Edo was renamed Tokyo, the area around the temple was transformed into Asakusa Park due to the influence of Western civilization.
