There are many types of global popular cultural flows demonstrated throughout the world. In some regions of the world the popular culture remains strongly connected to its originating region. In some other cases, the media adapts to the culture of the region it is in, and changes drastically from its origin. One television show that stands out in its countless forms of globalization is Sesame Street. Sesame Street is an American television show for children. The concepts associated with this show have gone global. In 2001, there were over 120 million viewers of the international versions of Sesame Street. By 2006, there were 20 co-productions throughout the world, and by 2009, these shows were seen in more than 140 countries. Sesame Street …show more content…
Rechov Sumsum was the first co-production to dedicate an entire curriculum section towards educating about mutual respect. The co-production focused on the importance of mutual respect due to the "profound political tension in the region". Rechov Sumsum curriculum differed from many other regions because of the viewers’ specific needs. Takalani Sesame incorporates South Africa’s 11 national languages, which are Afrikaans, English, Zulu, Xhosa, Swazi, Ndebele, Sesotho, Northern Sotho, Tsonga, Tswana and Venda.
