Service Scholarships

Improved Essays
Scholarships are important because they provide an opportunity for underprivileged students to do something better. They can pay some of their way through the college of their choice. Scholarships taught me acceptance and denial; because I have never received one, so when I do, I will be grateful and use it towards college: room, board, books, or tuition in general. Service is important because it gives students a new perspective that they are not entitled to anything. Sometimes after completing service projects students learn that giving back to the community without anything in return is rewarding in itself. Service projects have shaped my development because I ended up learning tons of life lessons, and I would like to continue doing them

The first service learning experience I had was Into the Streets, a campus wide event that has all students and faculty volunteering around the community. During this affair the women’s soccer team was assigned to work at the Gospel Mission Thrift Store, where we hung and sorted clothes and later placed them on racks. On first arrival the racks for clothes were empty, after our four hour shift the clothes were smooshed together so tightly there was no room…

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Scholarship Essay Throughout my high school years, I wanted to change others more than they change me. There has always been this "guilty mind" behind my ears that if I had a way to help others with my abilities then I would do so. However, the knowledge that I am currently equipped with is very low and limited to what I can do. The choice of secondary education is the next level of commitment to reshape my community. Learning to write, speak, and think are competence that are deep within me and are ready to ascend.…

I play on the women's collegiate softball team at St. Thomas University. I have been playing softball since I could walk and, along with every other athlete, my dream is to play on the biggest and brightest stage possible. For softball that is the NCAA College World Series. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to make millions of dollars playing professional softball like many other professional athletes. This is it for me because college is the highest level of softball I will play in my life and I don't want to settle at a school where I know my athletic ability and hard work could get me so much further.…

Scholarship shows the dedication of a student who is pleased to take the necessary time to achieve the proper knowledge they need or want. To be willing to take the necessary time, the student must have a strong drive. My drive came from my parents and their goals in life. I learned at a very young age that you must work for want you want, no one will just give it to you. I knew that I was not very sportsy like my sister, but I enjoyed school work and getting the good grades.…

I feel like I am a good candidate for this scholarship because, as a senior, any and all money earned and received will help me ease the burden of attending college. My goal throughout my whole childhood was to receive a full ride scholarship to the college of my dreams; however, as time has gone on and I have matured I have come to the realization that, that dream is not as achievable as I once believed it to be. I have worked hard, inside and outside of the classroom, making the grades and creating the resume that colleges are looking for, and in response I have been offered tuition waivers. Which ultimately means I am still responsible for paying for my books, room and board, part of the tuition cost, and mandatory fees.…

Service, while it does benefit me, is meant to help those around me. Service is valuable in high school because it teaches me the importance to aid others in every way that I can. Service also provides a happiness that I will carry throughout my life until the day I die. The joy on a child's face at a spring carnival when they finally win a prize, or when they look in the mirror at the creation you painted upon their face benefit my soul. The smiles on the faces of people who wander chilly New Albany streets when they hear your carols ring out around them helps to make me realize the importance of community.…

For years, seniors at Preston High have been required to present a portfolio in order to graduate. While this tradition has been preached to the students from the start of freshman year, no one begins to take it seriously until a few weeks before they are due. During those last couple of weeks, everyone runs around trying to dig up any examples of good work, peer reviews, transcripts, letters of recommendations, along with many other odds and ends from their high school careers. The result of the major last minute preparation performed by almost the entire senior class is comes out to be a binder filled with unorganized papers with a sometimes shoddy presentation. After it is all said and done, the portfolios end up in the trash or under someone’s…

In my life, my family has tended to have some financial issues. I do not want to delve deeply into them, but I do want to say that we could use any help we can get when it comes to scholarships. Even though I do plan on attending a fairly cheap (compared to other colleges) community college. This college is NICC because I heard that it has a nice engineering program and that is what I plan on doing when I am older. I think that a nice and cheap community college would still produce problems in my families income which is why I think that any scholarships would benefit greatly.…

College Scholarship Service (CSS) PROFILE is used by private colleges and a handful of public universities (e.g., University of North Carolina, University of Virginia, and Georgia Tech to name a few) as a financial aid supplement. Its purpose is to determine each individual's Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and award institutional aid (unlike the FAFSA which awards Federal Aid). The PROFILE uses a different algorithm than the FAFSA and has additional inputs including home equity, net worth of small family businesses, and the income/assets of the non-custodial parent. As the CSS PROFILE and CSS PROFILE Worksheet (on which you can practice!) are time consuming processes, it is best to have the following information at the ready: • W-2…

My service project was Vacation Bible School at Salem Rd Baptist Church. I chose this project because I was invited to participate in this wonderful learning experience by the pastor of the church. During VBS I learned about multiple spiritual gifts I have. One of the spiritual gifts I accomplished was the ability to have patience with children. I had to use patience during activity time because occasionally the children had a difficult time understanding the activity or would refuse to participate in the activity.…
