For my service learning project, I volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Gregg County, which is one of the centers that had merged with the Boys and Girls Club of Big Pines in Marshall (Cromer, 2016). The mission statement of the Boys and Girls Club of Big Pines is “To empower the kids of East Texas to be great” (About the Club, 2016). In addition to this statement, the organization as a whole seeks “To inspire and equip all young people, especially those that need us most, to achieve their full potential as healthy, productive, responsible caring citizens” (About the Club, 2016). When I think of a christen Moral life one of the first things that come to mind is the Bible. I would go on to say the morality of a true Christian would necessarily come from the Bible. It declares what is right and what is wrong for man in God's sight. The Scriptures indicate that when a person has been forgiven their sins, by trusting in Christ as the one who paid for those sins by dying on the Cross, that they will have a new life. This new life, as a Christian, is to be different from the common thinking of the sinful world, putting aside the former ways of life.…

Service Learning is an act of portraying goodness, as described in the the article "What We Don't Talk About When We Don't Talk About Service Learning". Giving back to the community, is showing an act of kindness for others whom might clearly deserve it in a time of need or just as well as to those who merely expected it. Through these good actions, whatever the cause may be, a chain reaction could be started. Maybe not everyone shows their gratitude by giving back what they received, for example lending a helping hand, but one way or another they react upon this gesture in an appreciative manner. Having such young souls participate in wonderful causes such as shelter homes, hospitals, and schools to name a few locations is a wonderful…

Growing up near the beach with three siblings had its advantages for my parents because it was the ideal place for kids to burn off energy, bond together as a family, building sand castles, running around, and swimming in the ocean. However, not everyone who visits the beach cleans up after themselves or cares about the environment. There would be garbage everywhere including plastic bags, bottles, cans, trash that’s contaminating the marine life and destroying their environment. Since my sister and I are huge animal lovers, we would sacrifice our playtime and clean up as much trash on the beach that we could. At a young age, I felt virtuous about what I was accomplishing, so I wanted to contribute to more programs and get involved as I got…

My ideas for our chapter service projects and my personal service projects are surrounded around the topic of benefiting others in any way, shape, or form. Kindness should be a gift that comes at no price to others. I firmly believe that anything I, or anyone anyone for that matter, should always try and help others, no matter the occasion. Helping others is important when we talk about those who have put themselves in danger for the safety of our country: our soldiers. One of my service project ideas would be for students to write a letter to families out there who have brothers, sisters, etc.…

After observing the amount of litter, trash, and dead trees across my local park during my service-learning project, my insight about pollution and the cutting down of trees increased and lead me to have more empathy about the issue I was researching. While completing this project I learned many things, some of which being the importance trees have on our environment, and how having clean parks are beneficial for our nation. It helped me understand the issue I was researching more deeply and helped me connect with the issue.
