We have learned how to handle real life situations and how some groups are more advantaged than other groups. For this reason, we were assigned to write how we would handle some hypothetical problems and what we learned from our service learning. Doing these problems will show what I have gotten out of the class and what I will bring with me to help the world become a better place in the future. As part of the class, we had to do service learning. The point of the service learning was to learn that giving is receiving. I feel like I did learn this lesson from doing service learning. While doing service learning, I could see that the workers and the few residents who were there while I did my service learning were happy to have help. It made me happy to see the people I was helping, happy as well. Outside of that, I did not gain anything else that helped me learn that lesson but I do not feel like anything else is needed to teach me that lesson. …show more content…

Doing so may also make the family members who are uncomfortable, gain more courage to speak out when they are uncomfortable about homophobic jokes or similar situations. I would also stop them as letting them tell those jokes might make my cousins who are telling them come off as homophobic, even if that is not their intention. This paper will discuss the overall teaching experience including; topic selected, the rationale and how it was presented, the learning theory applied and what materials were used during the session and the audience’s evaluation, as well as my personal evaluation of this valuable experience.…

Now I can benefit from this because I can use this organization as a resource for my future clients. Not only did these classes offer Young hands-on experience, but they also introduced her to a new style of learning. “It made me kind of disappointed going to other classes because I felt like sometimes I would be just memorizing things out of a textbook and that I could be using my education for so many other things,” said Young, “or that I felt like I was learning more in service learning than I was just sitting in a lecture.” Besides the experience, connections made with instructors and other peers help students feel like they are a significant part of a larger community.…
