Service Learning Project Reflection Paper

For my service learning project, I tutored at Central Community College in the ESL classroom. The class consisted of usually around nine or ten adults aging around twenty-one to fifty or sixty year olds. After Mrs. Alma taught her lesson, it was my job to go around and assist the students if they had trouble completing their worksheets. The class was in need for more native English speakers to assist with the learning process of the students. Even though there were not that many students, I had a positive impact being there because I could have more one on one time with the students to explain the answers and why the answers were correct. Nurturing pedagogy was one of the most prominent moral dimensions that was evident in the service learning project. By acquiring this skill of serving, my students will gain leadership skills, team ethic skills, gain hands-on experience, grow in understanding of diverse cultures that their community offers, and have opportunities to act on their values and beliefs. In addition, service learning occurs in classroom as students connect academics skills and content with community needs. For example, because I am a history major, I would conduct a community service project where my students would interview veterans of a past or current war to gain a deeper understanding of the particularities that affect men and women who serve, and use these stories to create publications to share with the community about what they
