Service Learning Project Paper

Doing the service learning project I learned what it means to be involved in the community. Researching problems around the county and coming up with solutions was a fun and hard part of the project. I had a set goal to help out the community build a garden. I figured out that one of the best places for a garden is at a school. I chose the local middle school, Silver Sands. The reason for this is because having a garden at a school will provide fresh food and a learning experience for kids. Being involved in the community takes a lot of work but the results are worth it.
One of the main concerns that made me want to do this project is that school lunch tends to be bad. Most of the time they serve food that isn’t fresh and not the greatest in nutritional value. Having fresh food to eat will make the students look forward to eating lunch every day. I remember being in middle school and refereeing to lunch as school food and not good food. If kids can look forward to eating lunch at school that would make the whole middle school experience that much better.

Students are always complaining about how bland as well as small school lunches are, so the best option to fix these complaints is to have an open lunch.
