'Serve Sports Fans': A Case Analysis Of ESPN

ESPN’s mission statement is very clear and simple. The key component of the mission statement is to, “serve sports fans” (Smith 146). In order for ESPN to cater to every sports fan’s needs, they have to have the right people in place. Great personalities like Stuart Scott don’t just love their job, they love sports. People like Stuart Scott are what draws the fanatic to ESPN. People at ESPN absolutely love their jobs, but they might love sports more. To fulfill the mission statement, ESPN had to first hire fanatics. As stated in the text, “ESPN was the guy you talked to at the water cooler about the playoffs” (Smith 40) and ESPN truly is that.
