After reading chapter 12, and analyzing the different leadership styles I would have to say my leadership style is servant leadership, with a mix of task-oriented behaviors and people-oriented leader behaviors – depending on the situation. I’m a people person, and love helping people. I’m a motivator, and I like to try to make people’s jobs easier. As a leader I see myself as serving the needs of my team, to provide them the right tools for them to get their job done, and to help them actually enjoy their job. I’m all about helping people to figure out their goals, help them to achieve those goals, and help them through hard times. According to Organizational Behavior chapter 12, this is what a servant leadership style looks like; the texts …show more content…
I try to use the best of both worlds to help my team accomplishes the tasks and overall goals I, and our organization, sets from them. According to research outlined in chapter 12, both behavior types are beneficial to the organization, and I believe, from my experience, finding a balances between he two behavior types is golden for the team and the organization in the short term and long run (Organizational Behavior, 2014, p. 13, ch. 12). I was just recently promoted to team lead, and I’ve been told my motivating personalize, combined with my ability to keep people and projects on track, while also caring for the team is why my management think I would make a great leader. My current manager’s leadership style, I think, is just like mine. I think that’s why she likes me so much, and why I think she is such a good leader. Since I’m now moving to a new team, I’m not really sure what my new manager’s leadership style is – I’m trying to figure that out now. We for sure do not have the same personalizes, but I think, at least so far, we work well

Personal leadership / management style analysis During my first few weeks in the field experience course, I have noticed the complexity of leadership and management that is involved in the work field. Both, a leader and a manager are very important people in an organization. According to Collins (2001), managers and leaders “exist in different forms, roles and responsibilities”; as a result, Five Level Hierarchy exists, where level one has highly capable individuals, two is contributing team member, three is competent manager, four is an effective leader, and finally five is an executive. A great leader must be an effective communicator in order to lead a group of people in order to accomplish a goal or vision.…

When comparing both Followership and Servant Leadership you can see that one grows and emerges to become the other. As junior soldiers to be effective followers we must be able to think critically about situations to create solutions and to share ideas with each other and our leadership. As leaders we must give others a chance to be heard, we should allow our soldiers to come up with ideas of there own to help the mission and to take steps in developing themselves into the future leaders they will be. Although followership and leadership go hand in hand they are still two different sides to a coin.…

While preparing to deploy, during deployment, and returning from deployment, Leaders and Soldiers can get stressed out as mentioned in the previous paragraphs. All are challenged with getting the mission done. There are plenty of threats that prompt stress in the military. These threats while deployed are the enemy, being in a different environment Soldiers are typically not used to, subpar living conditions, being away from family, or being restrained to the perimeter of the base. Although it is very dangerous over in Iraq and Afghanistan there are opportunities for all to contact family and friends, go to a gym, run, and watch movies; if a Soldier has down time.…

As a student-athlete we are put in a leadership position because of the university environment. It is our place to use our time and talents to set a worthy example for other people to follow. I have been reflecting on the meaning of servant leadership and its use in diverse settings; I found I have very little understanding about the concept. Because of my limited knowledge of the servant leadership model I need to become more aware of diversity types, for example, the diversity between ethnicity, personality, lifestyle, and income. Also, I need to reflect on the ramifications of not handling diverse situations.…

Finally I think I have practiced many styles of leadership over the years I am currently trying to practice servant leadership as described in Robert Greenleaf 's book The Servant as Leader. He sates Servant-Leadership is a philosophy that relies upon: principle-centeredness, working through people, giving direction and support that serves to help people. It is an empowered choice that any individual can adopt who seeks to serve and lead for in their personal life. Additionally he notes, an organization is comprised of many individuals who make the choice to work in collaboration to achieve the mission of the agency, or make a choice not to do so. If all, or at least the majority of individuals choose to work harmoniously, then the systemic affect of these individual choices crafts a stronger organization.…

It is generally agreed that leadership style implies a leader’s behavior viz-a-viz the way he provides direction, implements plan and motivate people. In analyzing my leadership style, there’s need to consider background and philosophy. I’m compassionate in nature and with a dominant C Quadrant, the HBDI assessment lent credence to this. I tend to concentrate on the ‘who’ rather than ‘what’, by this I mean that a leader can bring out the best in people by first understanding their psychology and this goes a long way in suggesting to me the attitude of a team member towards his job.…
