When considering how to reach students who have not connected with the teacher or classmates, I feel that Spears’ (2010) servant leader characteristic of stewardship (p. 29) can provide guidance. As teachers, it is vital for us to ensure that all students take away from our classrooms the essential information needed to succeed in society as English Language Learners and beyond.
