Heartlessness progresses as a topic of discussion. In these three opposing works, Serial Podcast, Ordinary People, and The Glass Castle come similarity. They relate not only in comparing the themes but comparable in modern society. The theme heartlessness leads to abuse or death, matches in all three texts. In current times, we see this problem more often than necessary. Three current events relating to the three works include, “Choking Game Leads Students to Death”, “Boy Killed Himself After He Was Bullied for Being Good-looking’, and “California Girl’s Escape From ‘Human Depravity’ Led to Rescue of 12 Siblings”. A quotation pulled from this memoir follows, “Suddenly, one of mom’s oil paintings came flying through an upstairs window. Next came her easel. The crowd below scurried back to avoid getting hit. Then mom’s feet appeared in the window, followed by the rest of her body. She was dangling from the second floor, her legs swinging wildly. Dad was holding her by the arms while tried to hit him in the face.” (Walls 71). The current event that relates to The Glass Castle, refers to a story also about a family.
