Lying everyone does it and “studies show that the average person lies several times a day. Some of those lies are bigges although this may be true more often than not, the lies we tell are little white lies” (psychologytoday.com). Serial podcast is an online series where host Sarah Koenig talks about real life news in a story like format each season. Season 1 deals with the 1999 case against Adnan Syed convicted with murder of his then ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee and 17 years of age. With his conviction based solely off of sketchy word of a said accompless Jay Wilds one must wonder if he is telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth. My question is did Jay wilds play a larger role in this murder other than helping dispose of the body and …show more content…
If you look into that hint it gives us a plausible motive. Let's say Jay was caught in the act of cheating by noon other than Hae Min Lee and she says she wants to tell Stephanie. Jay stated multiple times that Stephanie was his everything so Hae telling Stephanie about his cheating on her could end that relationship. Jay is also quoted saying he would do anything for Stephanie. So how far is he willing to go? Is murder included when he says “anything”or is there a grey area. Going back to his own observations these are what make him the most questionable, Jay remembers way too many details about how Hae looked. If Jay killed Hae that would explain his extensive knowledge on the smaller details of the murder and the changes in story. The things he is sharing could quite possible be his memories that he now has to use to frame someone else unfortunately Adnan being the easy escape-go. Jay killing Hae premeditatively makes more sense she had something that jeopardized Jay’s relationship with Stephanie so her panned out how to kill her and ended up being able to frame

One thing about this case is undeniably certain. Jay is somehow connected to the murder of Hae Min Lee. And I have an aching feeling that he is closer to it than he is letting on. Jay’s stories do not add up. Could be that they’re never the same, could be that his friend’s stories are fishy too, or it could be that he is trying way too hard to appear innocent.…

Sarah Koenig in Serial, and Rabia Chaudry in Undisclosed begins their investigations with preconceived reasons for Adnan Syed’s innocence. Chaudry is personally connected with Syed through her brother Saad Chaudry, Syed’s best friend, so Rabia Chaudry believes Syed’s awesome and cannot commit murder. Thus, as a lawyer, Chaudry has previously reviewed the state’s case thoroughly. On the other hand, Koenig begins her investigation with a different reason for doubting the state’s case against Syed. Koenig believes that Syed’s defense lawyer, Christina Gutierrez, might have messed-up; Koenig wrote an article in the Baltimore Sun about Syed’s defense lawyer when she was disbarred from law, for mishandling client’s money.…

There is no physical evidence that Adnan committed the murder, just assumptions and theories that led to his imprisonment. Jay, Adnan’s best friends boyfriend, tells the cops that Adnan had let him know that he was going to kill Hae. He also states that Adnan gives him his car and cellphone but who does this with someone you don't really know. There is no true evidence here. Jay even lets the cops know he helped bury Hae’s body.…

Since Jay saw the body in the trunk, this is proof that Adnan had murdered Hae. However, this is false since every time Jay was interviewed, his story kept being changed many times. In the podcast Sarah Koenig said, But, of course, two weeks later big swathes of his story have changed.” (Episode 4, pg 67). This quote is showing that Jay is changing his story a couple of times when he is interviewed.…

Thoughts are up in the air when it comes to the truthfulness of Jays testimony, especially when he is involved, but gets off scotch free due to his allegations against Adnan. Although he was able to bargain a plea deal, he ran the risk of putting himself behind bars in order to let what he believes to be the truth out in the open. The choice of doing a narrative analysis on Jay Wilde was to see through his eyes the day leading up to the murder and the murder itself. Why do critics continue to give off the impression Jay Wild is lying and what has Jay’s role willing be throughout Adnan’s…

There is too much leisure time in the way Jay has described the timeline. Also, if Jay is telling the police that he is innocent and Adnan is guilty why wipe the fingerprints and throw the clothes away. The payphone must’ve been somewhere else. Jay probably forgot how the day went for there to be leisure time. He probably did not want to be involved in the first place and did not want to go to the cops at first.…

His heroic testimony against his good friend is the main reason the state was able to correctly convict Adnan. In his sworn statement, Jay affirms Adnan killed Hae and that he saw her dead body. He tells investigators, “all [he could] see [was that] Hae’s lips [were] all blue, and she [was] pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she [was] dead.” This descriptive account of Jay’s first interaction with the deceased corps is very clear evidence that he was a witness to this disgusting act.…

But contrary to that, he should not have been able to tell that he was high if he could remember that but not the call. Adnan comes right out and tells us “I do remember being high at the time because the craziest thing is to be high and have the police call your phone. Certainly the jurors thought it was a crime of passion, although the judge did not think it was not a good motive. The jurors during this case were as quick as lightning and convicted Adnan of first-degree murder, in under two hours. How can a jury convict someone for first degree murder in under two hours, especially not having enough evidence to prove Adnan did kill Hae? All they had was Jay’s testimony, which brings me to my second reason as to why Adnan is innocent of the murder of Hae Lee.…

Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…
