A lot of people want to blame the parents of the offenders, asking “what did you turn your child into?” 36% of serial killers were physically abused, 26% were sexually abused, and 50% were psychologically abused (Mitchell and Aamodt 45). Many people have logically come to the conclusion that just because someone is abused, it does not mean that they will become a serial killer; or even a murderer; which is true. In the general population (people who have never committed murder) only 6% are physically abused, 3% are sexually abused, and 2% are psychologically abused (Mitchell and Aamodt 45). The dramatic difference of abuse frequency between people who are serial killers and people who are not seems evident enough to support that serial killers are created.…

His father, Christian, was a baker by trade and operated his own bakery in their small town (Greig, 2012). Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer, more infamously known as the “Milwaukee Cannibal”, is considered one of the America’s most notorious lust serial killers. Dahmer spent over a decade terrorizing the city of Milwaukee with his horrendous killings. Because of the torturous manner in which he committed his murders, Dahmer landed himself a spot at the highest level on Dr. Michael Stone’s Gradations of Evil Scale ("On The Scale of Evil, Where do Murderers Rate?", n.d.). He not only murdered 17 men, but also engaged in necrophilia, cannibalism, and zombieism after drugging, molesting, and strangling the men to death (“Jeffrey Dahmer Biography”, n.d.). Theodore Rober is an American serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar who assaulted and murdered many young women and girls during the 1970s, and I think many more women then he admitted to. He liked to spy on these young and attractive college women, first near his home in Washington, then moving east to Utah, Colorado, and lastly in Florida. Bundy would spy on these women with a ruse, many times wearing his arm in a sling or his leg in a fake cast and walking with crutches. He would then use his charm and faked disability to convince his victims to help him carry books or unload objects from his car. He was also known to mimic authority figures, such as police officers and firefighters, to gain victims’ trust before he attacked.…

People have continuously asked the question of whether serial killers are born or made. Researchers have done countless studies to provide the world with an answer. Truth be told, despite all of the research, there is still no definite answer (Allely, Minnis and Thompson). Of course, something is mentally wrong with a person if they desire killing other human beings, but the decision to act on this desire is based solely on other influences that caused the person to make that choice. People are obviously more comfortable with blaming the act of serial killing on some mental defect of the brain because it is frightening to think to think we as a society play a part in a person becoming a serial killer.…
