Without even talking to the convicted killer scientist can pick out killers just by looking at their brain scans(Ted). It has been found in all serial killer no matter what the age, there is damage to the orbital cortex. This part of the brain is right above the eye and is responsible for decision making. The damage is different from a killer to killer but, still the damage is there that is effecting these people. Some serial killers might have a mental illness, but genetics might play a part in a serial killer’s decision. Many studies of family genes of serial killer have been found, that a violence gene exists of the x chromosome. The gene is called MAO-O. This gene is more likely to be found in men than in women. But the more the gene is past on more common in girls it becomes (Ted). The sex-linked chromosome floods the brain with serotonin in early development. Serotonin is used in small amounts to calm and relax the brain, after the constant flood of this hormone the Brain is insensitive later in life which makes these people more aggressive and violent. Mental illness is not a tell-tale sign for serial killers it is a very serious issue and should not be taken lightly. Multiple personality disorder can be very dangerous because it is a dissociative identity disorder that is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct or split identities or personality states that continually have power over the person's behavior. Often multiple personality disorder and post traumatic disorder go hand in hand because those effected create new personality’s as a coping mechanism (Anderson). In the case of Kenneth Bianchi, the son of an alcoholic prostitute who gave him up only after two weeks. From an early age, he was considered a troubled child who was a compulsive liar. He had a high IQ but, was moved around to different schools and was described as lazy. The tipping point of his diagnoses was after his father’s death the lack of his emotions during the funeral service. The only time he killed was when one of his personalities fought its way to the front of his head. After his capture in 1979 the state physiatrist who diagnosed him surprisingly convinced Kenneth to create a new personality.
